35 workers died in 9 days in “labour accidents”

2 workers lost their lives at an explosion at the shipbuilding zone of Tuzla. On April 5, there has been an explosion at an investigation ship being constructed at the Adalar Shipbuilding for Norway. 2 workers died and 3 were injured. On April 9, a whirlwind happened in Maden/Elazig, where a container at which road construction workers were staying fell upon the rocks. As a result of this, 6 workers lost their lives and 6 were injured. The road construction point, 5 kilometres away from the town centre turned into a battle field.
Thus the number of the workers who died in the so-called "labour accidents" in only the first 9 days of April reached to 35. The number of the workers who died due to the same reason in 2012 is now 198. 11 of them is under the age of 14 and 17 are between the ages of 15-17. In 2011, the total number was 619. The highest number of the so-called "labour accidents" is at the construction and road-building sector.
The high number of the so-called "labour accidents" is caused of lack of security measures, inhuman conditions of accommodation, long working hours etc.
The dockers' union Limter-Is and several democratic mass organisations, including the representatives of HDK , protested the so-called "accidents", announced the Ministry of Labour as responsible and demanded the persecution of the bosses.
