The second important centre of Newroz celebrations was Istanbul, where the thousands of policemen were deployed to hinder the rally. Heavy clashes with the police continued throughout the whole day of March 18, while one Kurdish patriot was killed, tens of people were heavily injured and 165 people were arrested.
Starting from Millet Street which is kilometres far away from Kazlicesme Square, the police forces attacked on any gathering of even 10-15 persons for any reason. As a result, every place where even 10-15 demonstrators met casually or on purpose turned into an action point, the fact which resulted in all the streets of Istanbul turning into a war front of the Kurdish patriots and the revolutionary and democratic forces. Co-president of BDP GultenKisanak and some MPs of BDP were also on the streets together with the people. {divide}
Sultanbeyli , Kanarya, Basaksehir, Kartal, Alibeykoy, Bagcilar were some of the labourers' districts where demonstrators received heavy police attack even before getting out of the neighbourhood to go for Kazlicesme Square.
A group of fascists from MHP attacked some of the demonstrators in Zeytinburnu with sticks and knives. The police did not stop the fascists, who heavily injured 5 people.
Even the press was effected by the attack, the cameras of the correspondents were confiscated and some of them were beaten.
Despite the de facto emergency state dominating on the streets of Istanbul, thousands of Kurdish people and revolutionary forces as well as our militants celebrated Newroz at tens of different points.
