Konya Seydisehir Eti Aluminium Limited Company is the only aluminium integral enterprise of Turkey and its annual aluminium production capacity is about 64 thousand tons. This enterprise wanted to be privatised for the second time. There are 1718 workers working in this integral enterprise which produces aluminium since the year of 1974. This is the main economic source for the people in Seydisehir with the population of 60 thousand.

The state's plan for the privatisation of the Eti Aluminium enterprises is responded with the workers' and people's resistance. Thousands of police, gendarmerie, air teams, ready-commandoes, tanks, police dogs, pepper gases and etc85The state has almost activated all its repression mechanisms. Their aim is to break the resistance of the resister workers and entire town and to prevent organisation and appearance of a new SEKA.

Not only workers but whole people of the town are resisting. About two thousand workers, their wifes/husbands, children, relatives, tradesmen, students; people of Seydisehir as a whole are resisting. There are barricades inside the enterprise; thousands of people closed the entrance of the factory; schools have been boycotted. The representatives of other company, who wants to buy the enterprise, have had to runaway without visiting fully inside the factory because of conflicts between the workers, the people and the police. About 50 workers were injured because of the police attack and gag bombs. The political parties and democratic mass organisations, which are against the privatisation of Eti Aluminium, have already established a "town assembly". The tradesmen of the town are showing their anti-privatisation attitude by hanging posters saying "No to Privatisation" to the windows of their shops.

Seydisehir is being shown the way by the resistance of SEKA workers and the support of people in Izmit. What is at most scares the state, capital and the AKP (Justice and Development Party) is the development of self-trust among the workers in Seydisehir.

Actions of support and solidarity are also growing for the resistance that carried out against the state's privatisation attack by the Eti Aluminium workers and the people of Seydisehir. Members of the Ankara Socialist Youth Association have saluted the Seydisehir resistance by organising a press conference on 24th of May. Adana TEKEL workers have also sent their message of support by organising an action on 25th of May. This action was also participated by ESP (Socialist Platform of the Oppressed). ESP has saluted and said that they are together with the Seydisehir Workers also by organising actions in Adana and Izmir.

On 29th of May, the Caglayan Branch of the OYAK Bank (which belongs to the army) was bombed by MLCP in order to protest the police attack to the Seydisehir workers and the closure of the Egitim-Sen (Education Workers' Union). MLCP announced that any attack to the Seydisehir workers and Egitim-Sen will be responded. It has also been reported that the Seydisehir Branch of the AKP, the government party that has taken the decision to privatise the factory in Seydisehir, was bombed by FESK on 30th of May.
