Human shields' actions demanding the end of military operations are increasing in Northern Kurdistan. While the military operations against the guerrilla are extended, HPG made a statement on the 7th anniversary of June 1, 2004, the date on which they had ended the unilateral ceasefire process, and expressed that on June 1, 2010 they will end the process of inactiveness and use their right to retaliation in a more active and widespread manner. Following this statement, the HPG forces carried out actions in Iskenderun and Dersim where the Turkish Armed Forces had losses. In Hakkari, Van and Mardin, they carried out actions against police targets.
Furthermore, thousands of Kurdish patriots took to the streets within the context of the human shields' actions led by BDP and they made demonstrations towards the zones of conflict. The actions were exposed to brutal repression by the police and gendarmerie forces. {divide}
On June 4, the people of the Silopi district made a march towards the Habur Border Gate demanding that the military operations should stop. They demonstrated under the slogan "We won't permit this war". The police attacked the demonstrators with pressured water, gas bombs and truncheons. Many people were injured while the hucklebone of Sevahir Bayindir, MP of BDP was broken.
In Sirnak, an overspeeding police panzer killed ten-year-old Diren Basan. Hundreds of people who learnt the incident took to the streets and burnt down the vehicle.
On June 5, thousands of Kurdish patriots marched towards the Cizre Tank Battalion. They called attention to Ocalan's statement saying that he will renounce for not having found any interlocutors.
In Dersim, an action named "guarding for peace" was carried out in Kutu Deresi with the participation of intellectuals, artists, representatives of political parties and trade unions coming from different cities against the ongoing military operations and against construction of dams that threaten naturally and historically worthy places.
Sevahir Bayindir, MP of BDP whose hucklebone was broken at the police attack in Silopi, stated that Turkey and Israel are "twin states". She said that both states commit massacres with the same mentality and the rebellions of the Palestinian, Vietnamese and Irish peoples are the same as the rebellion of the Kurdish people. She drew attention to the hypocrite speeches of Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan.
Besides, the attacks of imprisonment against Kurdish politicians are also continuing. Mehmet Serif Gencdal, spokesperson of the Group for Peace and Democratic Solution, has been imprisoned for his speech at the Newroz celebration of 2010 in Diyarbakir. He is accused of "having made the propaganda of a terrorist organisation". Furthermore, the bill of indictment against Kurdish politicians who were arrested on different dates starting from April 14, 2009 has been prepared and presented to the court after 4 months. Aggravated life imprisonment is demanded for 151 people.
