Istanbul became the centre of heavy protests against IMF gathering in the city on October 6-7, 2009. Progressive revolutionary organisations, antifascists and unions made the police of Istanbul live different moments. {divide}During the meetings lasting two days, the number of the arrested was more than 200; 2 people, among them one activist of the ESP , were imprisoned; several hundred people were injured as a result of the day-long clashes. 18 branches of different banks were destroyed. When the police threw gas bombs at Taksim Emergency Hospital as well as on the protesters for two days, and also made use of plastic bullets, pressured water and gas bombs which made two people had heart attacks; one of them lost his life. Many of the arrested had to face brutal attacks by the police; and many protesters had to be taken to hospital due to the gas bombs which also affected the press workers. The protesters defended themselves with stones and Molotov cocktails, put up barricades and set them on
fire. The police terror at Taksim on October 6, that reminded of the brutal police terror of Mayday, was protested around noon by unions and different institutions, among them KESK , DISK and TMMOB , at Taksim Gezi Park, and in the evening by the Union Against IMF and World Bank at Galatasaray Square with an action. 2 women activists of ESP opened a banner read "IMF go home" right in front of the Conference Hall of the IMF and WB meeting and were arrested. Both days nearly 1,000 people gathered at Taksim and shouted the slogans "The oppression can't stop us" and "We are on the streets against IMF".
Our party's militia actively joined the clashes, too. The militia wrote slogans on walls at Taksim and threw Molotov cocktails at the police. The militia opened the banner read "IMF get lost, the only way is revolution".
