300 workers of Kent AS affiliated to Karsiyaka Council who had been dismissed in April have started a march on September 16 from Izmir to Ankara as one of their actions with which they have resisted for the last 5 months. The march that will last for 30 days and is 600 kilometres long is a strong reflection of the workers' determination to realise their demands including to become re-employed. {divide}
On September 16, the workers gathered in front of Karsiyaka Council and were supported by different organisations and unions, among them the DTP , ESP , TMMOB and KESK , as well as by their families. The council that was the starting point of the march was surrounded by the police with tanks. Despite the police oppression, the workers started their march holding a banner read "Long lives our march to Ankara". The union Genel-Is made a written statement saying that the workers don't only march to get re-employed but at the same time against the crisis, poverty and unemployment. The workers plan to reach Ankara on October 15.
