Mehmet Kanbur was one of the 4 revolutionaries executed on January 29, 1983 following the fascist military coup of September 12, 1980. The last letter he wrote to his wife was delivered to her 26 years later. The letters the revolutionaries wrote before the execution were not delivered to their families because they were considered as "inconvenient". After the pressure applied by the families for years, the general staff had to deliver the letter to the relatives. Saying "I am giving my life willingly for the freedom of my country, do not have any doubt that even drawing my last breath I am trying to be worth of you and my people, I will shout slogans of happiness. Down with fascism, long live revolution", in his last letter to his wife, Mehmet Kanbur has shown that he has adhered to his belief in revolution even in the last minutes of his life. When his wife received the letter after all these years she said in a speech "I fulfilled the last wish of my husband; I brought our son up as a revolutionary, that makes me happy."
