Shipyard workers started a march on July 8 from Kartal, Istanbul, to the Local Directorship of the Labour and Social Security Ministry at Unkapani to file a complaint against the bosses usurping their rights. The workers, at the same time members of the union Limter-Is , had started a resistance when they did not get paid for months and the bosses claimed that this has been because of the economic crisis. {divide}
19 workers employed at the subcontracting company Into Denizcilik affiliated to the company CHT have been resisting for 15 days and 9 workers employed at subcontracting company Pozitif Denizcilik for 10 days. The workers marching nearly 30 kilometres wore aprons on which the following was written: "A paradise of cheap labour is the hell for workers" and "Long lives our resistance at the shipyards". The workers were also supported by their families and Limter-Is. During the march they continuously shouted different slogans such as "The shipyard workers are no slaves" and "Our right to salary can't be usurped". The workers made speeches calling on the people to show solidarity with them.
At Unkapani, Limter-Is made a statement in front of the Local Directorship of the Labour and Social Security Ministry in the name of the workers saying that it will continue to struggle until the bosses will accept the demands of the workers. The union declared that a hunger strike will be started if necessary.
