The ESP organised an action on June 11 at Galatasaray Square, Istanbul, protesting the massacre by the Peru state against the Amazon people. In a statement made in the name of the people, it was said that the state had commanded the killing of more than 40 Amazon natives at the beginning of June who had struggled against the privatisation of the rain forests in Peru. {divide}The statement also stressed the fact that imperialist mining and energy companies try to occupy the soil of the Amazon people based on the Free Trade Agreement with Latin America concluded between the USA and Alan Garcia, the president of Peru. At the action, the socialists said: "We as Turkish socialists salute the resistance of the native people of the Amazon" and demanded the conviction of the responsible forces of the massacre. The ESP also demanded the cancellation of the Free Trade Agreement with Latin America and sent protest faxes to the Peruvian Embassy. The ESP activists shouted different slogans such as "Murderer USA, murderer Garcia" and opened a banner read "No to imperialist plundering and privatisation/ The native people of the Amazon are not alone".
