At their 37th anniversary of death, Deniz Gezmis, Yusuf Arslan and Huseyin Inan, the leaders of the revolutionary youth movement of 1968, were commemorated with actions in many cities. Nearly 10,000 people gathering at the revolutionary leaders' graves at Karsiyaka Cemetery, Ankara, on May 6 remembered the last words they had said before being executed. At the commemoration, organised together by revolutionary and progressive forces, people of different ages came together, from the ‘68 generation to the '90 generation, shouting that they will strengthen the struggle. Halit Celenk, the lawyer of Deniz Gezmis and his comrades, said in a speech that he would like their ideals to be always alive. In the speech held in the name of the organisations, the following was stressed: "They had become the representatives of independence against imperialism, of socialism against fascism, of the brotherhood of people against chauvinism, of freedom against reaction and of progressive thinking." It was also said that it would not be allowed that the contents of their struggle would be changed and emphasized: "We promise to the brave vanguard of the revolution, our leaders, to everybody who will create the future together with us and to ourselves that we will be like Deniz, Mahir and Ibrahim and destroy the rule of money. Our struggle is the struggle for the revolution and socialism, we will win..."
Similar commemorations took place in Adana, Izmir, Antep, Antakya, Gebze, Iskenderun, Bursa, Bolu, Amed and many other cities.
