On April 24, the Commission Against Racism and Discrimination of the IHD 's Istanbul branch organised an event to commemorate the Armenian intellectuals who had been killed during the Armenian Genocide in 1915. At the event titled The Armenian intellectuals and April 24, 1915. They had been arrested, sent to exile, they don't even have gravestones." Songs were sung in Turkish, Kurdish, Armenian and Sorani, poems read out and speeches made.{divide}
At the event, the theatre group Bogazici Gosteri Sanatlari Toplulugu presented the life of the 3 famous Armenian poets Siamanto, Taniel Varujan and Rupen Sevag as well as of the poet, writer, advocate and socialist deputy Krikor Zohrab and read out poems written by them. An exhibition on the Armenian intellectuals prepared by publisher and writer Ragip Zarakolu was also opened. During the Armenian Genocide in 1915, 220 Armenian intellectuals in Istanbul had been taken from their homes and work places and the majority of them had gone to exile and died on the way.
