In the morning of April 14, the police carried out operations against the organisations of the DTP and its members' houses. A lot of DTP leaders and members were arrested. This shows that the police are continuing with the arrest terror against democratic progressive organisations. {divide}
Besides the Kurdish cities such as Amed, Antep, Urfa and Hakkari, the raids were carried out in the Turkish cities Istanbul and Ankara, too, where antiterror units arrested more than 70 DTP activists including leaders of the DTP general centre. In Amed the TV channel Gun TV and Gun Radio were raided, too, and the police confiscated PCs and archives.
The raids were protested on the same day with actions in Amed and Istanbul. In Istanbul DTP Istanbul deputy Sebahat Tuncel made a speech at the action in the name of the mass saying that the raids had been a step aiming at the victory of the DTP achieved in the local elections on March 29. Tuncel said: "This is an attack against the Kurdish people's will". At the action the mass shouted slogans such as "Long live the people's brotherhood" and "The oppression won't stop us". The action was supported by many different democratic organisations and platforms including the ESP , SDP , IHD , Federation of the ‘78s and ODP .
In Amed the DTP organised an emergency meeting at its local office. DTP deputy Selahattin Demirtas declared that he considered the raids as "an operation to break the DTP's political will and to isolate the DTP". DTP co-president Emine Ayna said in a press meeting organised at the DTP general centre on April 14 that the raids were not based on a judicial basis and emphasized that especially those DTP members were arrested who had been actively involved in the election campaigning. DTP general president Ahmet Turk declared in his party's group meeting at parliament that "this operation shows that the government could not accept the election results" and stressed that the DTP would never give up its democratic struggle.
