Police raids on socialist organisations: 57 revolutionaries arrested

57 revolutionaries have been arrested as a result of police raids on houses and offices on March 10 early in the morning. At the raids on the offices of the newspaper Atilim, the central office of the ESP in Istanbul and its offices in different cities and at house raids, many laptops, CDs and printed material was confiscated by the police. {divide}
Among the arrested in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Hatay, Mersin and Adana, there are members of the ESP, SGD and EKD , journalists from the newspaper Atilim as well as one of the candidates of the Platform "Together We Can" formed by 20 democratic and revolutionary organisations for the local elections on March 29.
In Istanbul, Figen Yuksekdag, editor of the newspaper Atilim, Onder Oner, Muharrem Demirkiran and Cetin Poyraz, correspondents of the newspaper Atilim, Haci Orman, president of the BEKSAV , Alp Altinors, one of the coordinators of the Academy of Marxist Sciences "Nazim Hikmet", Munevver Iltemur from the Executive Committee of the EKD and 20 more ESP and SGD members have been arrested.
In Ankara, Alihan Alhan, respresentative of the ESP in Ankara and 4 more activists of the ESP as well as journalist Hasan Cosar, who was arrested in September 2006 and was released from the prison a short time ago, are under arrest.
In Antakya, Muhsin Cobanoglu, the candidate of the united electoral platform for the local elections and two more activists of the ESP have been arrested.
In Adana, 13 revolutionaries, among them Hulya Gercek, representative of the ESP in Adana, are under arrest.
5 socialists in Mersin and 1 in Izmir have been arrested.
The house of Cem Dinc, General President of the union Limter-Is has also been raided. Dinc was not arrested while is computer was confiscated.
The representatives of the newspaper Atilim, the ESP, the EKD and the SGD made a press conference at the office of the Istanbul Branch of the IHD on the same day in order to protest the raids and arrests. In the statement made by these organisations, it was stated that the states intensify the repression on the social opposition whenever the capitalist system suffer from crisis and it was expressed that this wave of repression on socialist organisations during the economic crisis and just before the local elections is not a surprise. They stressed that this wave of repression will be put in vain just as it was done before during the repression of September 8-12 and 21, 2006 and they said the following: "We get our power from the working class, poor labouring peoples, oppressed Alevites and oppressed Kurdish nation. No power can stop our determined march. We will win!"
The following organisations supported the socialist organisations by joining the press conference: SDP , BEKSAV, Radio Ozgur, FHDD , SODAP , the review Teori ve Politika, DTP , Academy of Marxist Sciences "Nazim Hikmet", EHP , SGD, DHF , B DSP , Mothers for Peace, the magazine Istanbul Ahali, the newspaper Partizan and TGDP .
A very similar wave of attacks was carried out by the state also on 8-12 September and on 21 September, 2006, when more than 50 offices of these socialist organisations in 21 cities were raided and more than 100 socialists were arrested.
