On the 2nd anniversary of his death, commemorations and actions took place in different cities of Turkey and Northern Kurdistan for the Armenian writer and intellectual Hrant Dink. On January 19, the masses took to the streets and shouted for a close observation of the trial of Hrant Dink, who was assassinated to years ago in Istanbul. {divide}
In Istanbul, the masses met in front of the office of the newspaper AGOS and left carnations and lit candles. The wife of Hrant Dink, Rakel Dink made a speech greeting the masses. At the commemoration act, the masses frequently shouted slogans like "The murder of Hrant is the Ergenekon state", "We are all Hrant, we are all Armenians" and "We will ask account for Hrant". The ESP let white pigeons fly.
After the commemoration revolutionary and democratic organisations, among them the ESP, too, started to march towards Taxim Square. The mass confronted with police barricades and gas bombs started to clash with the police. As a result of the clashes, it was said that the police arrested some people, among them ESP activists, too.
In Izmir, different organisations, among them also ESP and CHD, and unions such as KESK gathered in front of Sumerbank, Konak and opened the banner read "We are all Armenians, we are all Hrant"- In a statement made in the name of the mass, it was stressed that one must run after the truth for justice as Hrant Dink did and that the trial will be closely watched. The mass carried posters in Kurdish, Armenian and Turkish.
In Ankara, Hrant Dink was commemorated with different actions. On January 19, the newspaper Agos was sold on Yuksel Street, where a torch march was organised in the evening hours called upon by the Committee to Commemorate Hrant Dink. Thousands marched until Sakarya Street shouting the slogans "Down with the fascist dictatorship" and ‘Long live the brotherhood of the people" in Kurdish and demonstrated that the state is the murderer of Hrant Dink. The mass carried the banner read "Ceyna asterun yegpay rutyun / Long live the brotherhood of the people" written in Armenian and Turkish. The efforts of the police to hinder the march were all in vain. In a statement made later on, it was said that the murderers are known and that they would have to render an account.
In Adana, different organisations, among them also ESP, DTP , IHD , and unions gathered at Inonu Park and marched to the building of RTUK. The mass opened the banner read "Defying fascism, you are our brother Hrant" and protested against the TV channel TRT that had broadcasted a documentary on the Maras massacre showing Hrant Dink as the responsible for it. In a statement held in the name of the mass, it was said that the murderers of the Maras massacre as well as of Hrant Dink are known and demanded that they must be exposed.
In Malatya, the organisations, among them besides the ESP, DTP and Partizan also unions participating, realised a torch march. The mass marched until the quarter where Hrant Dink was born and carried the banner read "We haven't forgotten Hrant Dink, we won't let him make forgotten".
In Corum , Mersin and Antakya, commemorations were organised, too, where the masses shouted slogans condemning fascism and said "The murderer of Hrant Dink is the state".
