Protests continue against massacre by Israel

While entering a new year, protests in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan have continued against the massacres carried out by Israel in Palestine.

On December 28, the FHDD organised a sit-in at Taxim Tram Station, Istanbul supported by Palestinian refugees. At the action Palestinian flags were carried by the protesters, and pictures of Olmert, one of the main responsible forces of the massacres, were painted with red colour symbolizing blood. In addition, the mass protested the sentence of 30 years imprisonment given to PFLP general secretary Ahmad Sa'adat. At the action the slogans "Long live the global Intifada" and "Thousand greetings to those falling and fighting at Gaza".{divide}

On December 29, the 3rd day of the attacks, the IHD organised actions at Istanbul and Amed condemning the attacks. With the action in front of the Israeli Consulate at Istanbul, the IHD demanded the conviction of Bush and Olmert, the main responsible forces for the massacres. On the same day Malatya ESP organised an action in front of the Central Post Office opening the banner read "Murderer Israel, get out of Palestine" and emphasizing the hypocrisy in the statements of the AKP concerning the massacre.

On December 30, the 4th day of the attacks, revolutionary and democratic organisations, among them the ESP, Partizan, B DSP and DTP went on the streets in Antakya, Malatya, Izmir, Istanbul and Ankara. At the action in Izmir, a sit-in was realised in front of Sumerbank at the borough Konak after the traffic on the main road was blockaded. In Antakya, the protesting mass demanded the abolition of the military base Kisecik and burned flags of Israel. In Istanbul democratic organisations marched until the Israeli Consulate with the banner read "Stop the brutality at Gaza. Murderer Israel, get out of Palestine".

On December 31, protests also rose in Denizli. At the action made in the name of the Platform for Labour, Peace and Democracy, consisting of organisations such as the SGD , DTP and SDP as well as unions and TMMOB members who gathered at Can Dogan Park and blockaded the traffic on the main road, the resistance of the Greek people was also saluted.

On the last day of 2008 and the first day of 2009 protests were again raised in different cities such as Antep, Ankara, Manisa and Istanbul.

In Ankara, the Committee of Solidarity with the Palestinian People has realised actions following its "decision on permanent actions" taken against the attacks of Israel against Palestine.

On December 30, the TTB sent a statement to the Union of Palestinian Doctors and the Palestinian Embassy in which it announced to be ready for any medical support for Palestinian casualties.

The FHDD announced to have started a campaign collecting medical equipment that will be sent to Palestine.
