The conference started with the speech of the ESP representative. In the conference hall, different banners were hung up such as read "No accident, but murder, no fate but greed for blood" as well as pictures of the workers' leader Suleyman Yeter who had been killed with torture and the worker Erdal Inceyol who had lost his life recently before the conference in a work-related accident.
In the speech, it was stressed that together with the loss of the worker Erdal Inceyol the number of workers dying because of work-related accidents at Tuzla had risen to 115. The speech continued saying that as a result of the current economical crisis work-related accidents could also increase. As the reason for organising this conference, the representative said that the ESP wanted to show that the unions were not alone in the fight against work-related accidents and that work-related accidents leading to death as well as occupational illnesses are not just the business of the unions.
Papers were presented to the conference on different sectors such as textile, jeans abrasion, shipyard, metal work, education and health discussing the work-related accidents and the struggle against this. It was stated in these papers that the work-related accidents are a reality of thecapitalist system, that these murders happen outside of Turkey, too and that they are not a fate. Victims of the work-related accidents and occupational illnesses also spoke at the conference. The conference ended with the approval of the final resolution where workers expressed their demands.
