The Solidarity Association with the Palestinian People ( FHDD ) commemorated the Palestinian poet Mahmud Dervis, who lost his life after an open heart surgery this year in August, with an event organised in the Tarik Zafer Tunaya Cultural Centre on November 9. {divide}
Besides the presentation of a documental with resistance poets read by Dervis himself, the actor Zafer Diper read the poems in Turkish and Metin Findikci, who translated the poems of Dervish into Turkish, made also a speech. The Students´ Culture Group of the University of Istanbul presented songs, which set the poems of Mahmud Dervis to music.
In the speech made by the FHDD at the cultural event, it was said "The Palestinian people will never be alone as long as there are people in this country, who take a stand against the occupation of Palestine and defend the Palestinian people". Furthermore, the FHDD made a call to participate in the action of solidarity, which will take place on November 29, the Day of Solidarity with Palestine.
