The first hearing of the trial against Murat Karatas, who killed the Italian pacifist Pippa Bacca after raping her in Izmit on March 31, 2008, has started. Besides Bacca's mother Elena Manzoni, the activists of the EKD also participated at the hearing that took place at the 1st Heavy Penal Court of Kocaeli (Izmit) on October 7. {divide}The EKD activists made an action in front of the court opening a banner written "We all all Pippa for peace, justice and freedom" and they stated that many women were exposed to same kind of attack after Pippa's death. They finished the action by shouting the slogans "No to sexual violation and abuse", "We are all Pippa Bacca" and "We will not be the slaves of violence".
The Izmir bransh of the EKD made another action at Karsiyaka quarter where they opened a banner with the slogan "We haven't forgotten the murder of Pippa Bacca and we will not let it be forgotten!". They expressed that Murat Karatas was sentenced before this event again with the same reason but he was released easily due to the present laws.
The trial was postponed to November 4, 2008 because Karatas did not have a lawyer and there was no Italian-Turkish translator.
