On September 30, two people died in conflicts among young people in Altinova, Balikesir. After the funeral of one of them, 500 people gathered provoked by the fascists and started lynch attacks against Kurds, devastating houses, workplaces and cars. It was said that during the still ongoing attacks, the group, also participated by fascists coming from Ayvalik to Altinova, has damaged 17 workplaces, burnt a house and destroyed dozens of cars. While a part of the labouring Kurdish population left the area, those who stayed did not sent their children to school because of the attacks and threats and did not left their houses. The police are only watching the attacks.
The governor of Balikesir Hatipoglu accepted the attacks by saying in a statement concerning the incidents "because of the pain we excuse some overreactions". The member of parliament of the DTP Sakik said in contrast that the state has to be neutral and that the governor Hatipoglu has to be relieved from his duties.
On April 27 a similar attack against Kurdish people from the DTP occurred in Sakarya and this resulted in the death of one person. This lynch attack against the DTP has also been considered as being legitimate by the Chiefs of Staff of the Ministry of the Interior.
The IHD sent a delegation to the area in order to investigate the case.
