Peoples’ festival at Sarigazi

The people of the labourers' quarter Sarigazi in Istanbul came together at the 8th Sarigazi festival against the generalization of criminal gangs and cultural degeneration. The festival organised by the ESP , DTP , Partizan, Peoples' Front, Odak, EMEP and Aka-Der on September 13-14 was participated by more than 15 thousand workers and labourers. During the festival, revolutionary and democratic organisations opened information and solidarity tables and organised seminars under the titles "Unemployment, poverty and attacks against the working class" and " Ergenekon , the AKP and the reality of counter-guerrilla". Many musicians and music groups such as Grup Umut Yagmuru, Grup Col Ruzgarı, Seyfi Yerlikaya, Hasan Saglam, Nurettin Gulec, Bulent Turan, Grup Helesa, Grup Vardiya, Grup Yorum and Ferhat Tunc took stage at the festival. They made speeches at the stage condemning the military fascist coup of September 12, 1980. At the speeches made on behalf of the organisers, it was stressed that the state tries to degenerate the labourers and to liquidate their culture but the peoples of Sarigazi will continue to defend their own culture like they always did in the past.
