The arrest of the activists of the organisation Red Help by the Belgian police on June 5 was protested in Istanbul and the release of the imprisoned Bertrand Sassoye demanded.
On July 19 the Socialist Platform of the Oppressed organised an action in front of the Belgian Consulate at Taksim, Istanbul condemning the detention and raids. The ESP activists opened a banner read "Freedom to the International Red Help prisoners" and said in a statement: "Oppression and attacks on political centres fighting against the power of capital continue all over the world. As in our country, in all bourgeois states of the world the struggle for freedom is taken as a reason for attacks such as massacres and imprisonment. We as the revolutionary friends of Red Help in Turkey furiously condemn the attacks and detentions!". The action ended by shouting the slogan "Long live international solidarity".
