During the International Weeks Against Forced Disappearance from May 17-31, different actions are organised in many cities of Turkey and Nothern Kurdistan and mainly in Istanbul.
In Istanbul, ICAD (International Committee Against Disappearances), YAKAY-DER (Association for Support and Solidarity with the families of disappeared) and Istanbul branch of the Human Rights Association published a common action plan for the International Weeks. The first action was a sit-in in front of Galatasaray High School on May 17 at 12 noon. On May 18, a march was organised at 12 noon at the quarter Gazi until Gazi cemetery to commemorate our comrade Hasan Ocak, who had been killed under arrest, and the Kurdish patriotic Ridvan Karakoc at their graves. The ESP actively participated in the actions. On the evening of May 17, the ESP activists opened a banner read "Those who let people disappear will lose" at Istanbul quarter Alibekoy and organised a march shouting the slogans "Hasan Ocak is alive, communists are struggling" and "Do not remain silent, if you do so you`ll be next".
The actions at Istanbul will continue until May 31 with press statements, meetings, a photo exhibition and sit-ins.
On May 17 actions concerning the International Weeks Against Forced Disappearance were also organised at Ankara, Amed and Antakya.
