Deaths continue to happen at Tuzla shipyards

Accident-related murders at Tuzla shipyards in Istanbul coninue to happen. Lastly, on May 9 an explosion took place at Selah shipyard and the worker Izzet Gider lost his life. 6 workers were heavily injured. After the explosion workers gathered immediately in front of Selah shipyard to protest against the accident-related murders that killed their friend. The union Limter-Is made a statement in which it protested against the murder and called on the workers to participate in the protest action organised on May 10.
At 10am in the morning of May 10, Limter-Is organised a march until GISBIR , the Turkish Shipbuilders`Association. At the action they opened the banners read "We demand the right of safe working conditions and the right to live" and "Wives should no longer become widows and children orphanages" and carried pictures of the workers that were killed. The action was supported by 150 workers. Despite the police's efforts to hinder them, the workers marched determinedly and called on the people to join the struggle against accident-related murders. In the statement held by the representatives of the unions in front of GISBIR, it was stressed that workers had died before at Selah shipyard and the participants protested against the fact that safe working conditions are not ensured to prevent these accidents.
