The trial against the 10 revolutionaries and socialists who had been arrested and imprisoned after raids on houses, the office of the Socialist Platform of the Oppressed and Yamanlar Cultural Centre on October 30, 2007 has been finally started on April 16. The 7 male prisoners, held in Kiriklar f type prison, were not taken to the 10th Heavy Penalty Court when they refused to put on handcuffs in an inhuman way.
The ESP representative of Izmir Hulya Gercek from Bergama Prison said in her defence speech that the ESP fights for socialism and that this fight is legitimized.
While no prisoner was decided to be released, the trial was postponed to June 2, 2008.
One female prisoner, however, who had been detained with the same claims but later than the others and who had a separate trial, was released on the same day.
