The workers in SEKA factory, a paper industry, in Izmit have been struggling against the privatisation and closure of their factory since 1998. The workers had repulsed the government when it first decided to privatise it in 1998 by starting a resistance. On the day of 19 December , 734 workers have occupied the factory due to the decision of closure of the High Commission for Privatisation. After the action organised by the workers and supported by their families, democratic mass organisation and trade unions, workers have entered the factory building and occupied it. They said that they will not leave the building until the withdrawal of the decision of closure.

The struggle and commitment of the workers have led them to achieve success on the legal point of view. On 27 January, the court decided to stop the implementation of closure decision. While welcoming the decision in joy, the workers, at the same time, stressed out that they will continue to struggle until the full withdrawal of the decision of closure.

While the resistance is continuing, the Socialist Platform of the Oppressed ( ESP ), one of the organisations who support the resistance, have called upon the people of Izmit to support the struggle to stop SEKA's closure by distributing a leaflet saying struggle of SEKA workers is also our struggle".

By their resistance, SEKA workers are showing the militant path of the working class struggle against the capital's attacks.
