To stand up against the operation of the Turkish colonial regime in Southern Kurdistan is at the same time an international duty of the world people and working class. Our party MLCP calls on all progressive and revolutionary forces to defend the Kurdish people by organising solidarity actions, by realising protest actions in front of Turkish consulates and sending faxes and messages to the Turkish state.

After months-long discussions on the occupation of South Kurdistan the Turkish army started to bomb the Kandil mountains on December 15 supported by the USA. The air bombing continues on all places in South Kurdistan where the PKK could stay. According to the military outcome of the operation, the chief of general staff claims that the PKK has faced big defeats. The HPG (People's Defence Forces), however, stated that no guerrilla was killed in the clashes. Besides, true facts are that the operation had also civilian targets, many Kurdish villages were completely destroyed because of the bombings and 1800 people were forced to migrate.
The national liberation movement developed in Northern Kurdistan under the leadership of the PKK has managed practically to break the Turkish state's 80-year policy of annihilation and denial and has announced the existence of the Kurdish nation and Northern Kurdistan to the world. The appearance of the formation of a Kurdish state in Southern Kurdistan as a result of the US occupation in Iraq put the Turkish bourgeoisie in an even worse situation. The situation that developed in Southern Kurdistan after the occupation by the USA is a period of a state formation that is legitimated. The current period is making Turkish colonial fascism's nightmares reality.
Especially the fascist army front does not only want to oppress any colour of the national struggle and any forces of the PKK in Northern Kurdistan including any power of them, but also to prevent the development of a Kurdish state in Southern Kurdistan. The CHP , one of the army wings of the bourgeoisie, goes even a step further and demands the move of the Turkish border so that Southern Kurdistan will be part of the Turkish Republic.
As the strategies for annihilation and denial of the Kurdish nation applied for years have been unsuccessful and Southern Kurdistan has been under US protection, some parts of the Turkish bourgeoisie were looking for different solutions. Regarding the USA`s Iraq and Middle East policy, what was considered as a perfect solution are the liquidation of the PKK, the pressure to politically isolate the Kurdish democratic organisations and force them to surrender in parallel to the military pressure put on the guerilla, by that the Kurdish national struggle should make give up at the cost of a few insufficient rights for them. In this solution, the Kurdish state formation in the South will be guaranteed as far as the USA's interests require that.
The meeting between the Turkish prime minister Tayyip Erdogan and Bush in Washington was one important development that give a concrete shape to the discussions on the Kurdish question and the law giving permission for the occupation between the Turkish bourgeoisie's cliques.
At this meeting some steps were made supporting the US solution plan. The administration of Southern Kurdistan were persuaded that they won't be targeted and applied a softer language than before when the Turkish state threatened to start operations as well as remained silent concerning the military operations against the PKK on their soils.
The operation on Kandil was realised on the basis of this plan, the USA's intelligence support, the silence of the administration of Southern Kurdistan, and with heavy aggression on the Kurdish people and their posts in Turkey/ Northern Kurdistan. At the same time operations in Northern Kurdistan continued, too. The oppression and pressure to politically isolate the DTP are concentrated on the MPs and party leaders. DTP co-chair Nurettin Demirtas was imprisoned. By this, it is tried to include the DTP, regarded as the "soft tummy" of the movement by the USA and the Turkish state, into the plan of giving up. Besides, a new law of regret called "Law to go home" was put on the agenda to strengthen the demand for giving up. The operation met the psychology of the Turkish workers and labourer masses they had been adopted due to chauvinist propaganda. The capital oligarchy and AKP government are quite fine with the current situation. The generals' clique tries to retrieve its image that had been tarnished because of the defeat during the elections.
Besides, the real aim to prevent the formation of a state in Southern Kurdistan is still valid. This aim will again occur on the agenda in the clashes between the bourgeois cliques and in the relations with the USA, and the generals will continue to resist against the US plan. This means that the contradictions between these forces still exist. The extent of the impact of the US solution plan will be decided by the stance the Kurdish national movement's forces and the Turkish workers and labourers will develop.
