Telekom workers achieved victory

The Telekom workers who had been determinedly on strike for 44 days in all cities of Turkey and Northern Kurdistan achieved a victory in the night of November 28 and finished the strike.
The workers of Turk Telekom which has 23,400 employees had started a strike for the first time after 45 years. They led the strike despite the bourgeois media's anti-propaganda, the state's arrest and detention attacks and the police terror. This workers' strike was supported with solidarity actions by workers from different sectors, students and labourer officials.
According to the agreement reached in the negotiations on a collective agreement between the Turkish Telekom and the trade union Haber-Is , the workers will be paid a unique salary for 112 days, social bonuses will be increased likewise with the increase of the salary, and the workers` salary will be increased 10% in the first year after the strike and 6.5% in the second year in line with the inflation rate. While it was also agreed on an adjustment of the salaries for those who are not covered by the collective agreement, it was accepted that those workers dismissed during the strike could return to their work places.
The Telekom workers celebrated this victory in the morning of November 29 with Turkish dances in front of their work places. Those workers gathering in front of the general director's office in Gayrettepe, European part of Istanbul shouted the slogans "The workers who resist will win!", "Long live our organised struggle!" and "We are workers, we are right, we will win!". In a speech hold, it was emphasized that this strike was an achievement of the Turkish worker class.
