The police, who attacked the demo and press meeting organised by the ESP (Socialist Platform of the Oppressed) on 7 December against the isolation and the new penal execution law, have also detained journalists those who were viewing the demo and the attack, and tortured them. The following journalists are the ones being taken to custody and imprisoned:

Selver Orman, Ankara Representative of the Atilim Newspaper, Burcu Gumus, Bursa Representative, Nuray Kesik, Eskisehir Representative, Seda Aktepe, Istanbul correspondent, Ufuk Han, Ankara correspondent, Ersin Sedefoglu, Editor of the Dayanisma Newspaper and Serap Kervanci, the BEKSAV camera woman. Another correspondent of the Atilim Newspaper, Husniye Secgin is also being detained while viewing the action organised by the group called Mucadele Birligi in front of the Galatasaray College in Istanbul.

Through their letters sent from the Ankara Ulucanlar Prison, workers of the Atilim newspaper have said that they have been tortured and sexually abused while being taken detention and in the Anti-Terror Branch where they were taken to. Attacks against the Atilim Newspaper have been protested by many actions. On 23 December, the Atilim workers have also organised a picket and press meeting in front of the Turkiye Gazeteciler Cemiyeti (Association of Journalists in Turkey) and demand the immediate release of their friends imprisoned in Aankara. The editor of Atilim, Ozgur Tektas, who read out the press statement, said that Atilim is facing another conspiracy of the political police and the ACM (Heavy Penal Court) and on 10 December their workers were put in prison by Ankara No 11 Heavy Penal Court with the claim of "being member of MLCP" and "terrorist". Mr. Tektas noted that they will continue with their publication line -that is on the side of oppressed people- under any circumstances, and tortures and conspiracies will not intimidate them.

In his response to the question, which was given to the Assembly, the Turkish Ministry of Justice, Cemil Cicek said that he does not consider the imprisoned journalists as journalists but as people who committed crimes against the country and the government and as traitors to their country. These words are showing the AKP government's chauvinistic and fascistic mind and practices despite their so-called democratization process.

This statement of the Minister and tortures against the imprisoned people has been protested by many democratic organisations.
