Thousands of labourers joined the 7th Munzur Culture and Nature Festival which was organised between August 9-12 despite different provocations by the state and problems when entering the city.
At the festival, many events took place, such as poetry reading, panels, film and documentation presentations. Nearly 40,000 people listened to the concert where Burhan Berken, Group Munzur and Ozlem Ozdil went on stage. The fraternity of the people, the demand for freedom, the struggle against the destruction of nature and the construction of a dam on the river Munzur were the topics highlighted throughout the festival.
On August 12, the last day of the festival, the people of Dersim and the organisations, which participated in the festival, organised a demonstration against the project of a dam at Munzur valley opening the banner "Another energy is possible, there is no other Munzur". During the demonstration that went from Yeralti Bazaar to Kemerebel Bridge, the people shouted the slogans "Munzur is our dignity, defend it", "Munzur will flow freely", "We don't want any dam at Munzur" and "We don't want gold with cyanide". The festival ended with a concert with thousands of people. In a speech, it was said that "We know the periods when the blood of Munzur flew red, but you can't annihilate us. We want the river Munzur to flow freely. And for that, there must be freedom and fraternity."
