The newspaper Gundem had to face a 15 days lasting ban on publication because of the article under the heading "Batman's message: Defend the guerilla" in its edition of July 12. The decision was made by the 14th Heavy Penalty Court of Istanbul.
The newspaper Guncel, which began to be published after the ban on publication of Gundem, was also banned for publication for 12 days on July 16 with the pretext to be "the succession of the newspaper Gundem".
The newspaper Gundem and Guncel had to face such attacks of hindering the publication yet before. In her statement Gundem newspaper's chief editor Yuksel Genc considered the decision as following: "We find it reasonable that our newspaper is banned from publication just in the last week of our election campaigns. Once again we have seen that the Kurds want to be silenced in such a period".
