On the 14th anniversary of the Sivas massacre, thousands of people went on the streets in Sivas, Adana, Malatya, Istanbul and Mersin to demand justice for Sivas. On June 2, 1993, due to a reactionary provocation 35 intellectuals and writers, among them Asim Bezirci, Nesimi Cimen, Muhlis Akarsu, Metin Altiok, Hasret Gültekin and Ozan Türkyilmaz, were killed through a fire in the Madimak Hotel in Sivas where they had gathered.
The PSAKD, trade unions affiliated to DISK , TMMOB , ESP , DTP and many other mass organisations joined the commemorational event organized in Sivas on June 2. The mass of thousands of people shouted the slogans "The murderers will render account to the people!", "We have not forgotten the massacre on June 2, we will not let it forget!", "Shoulder to shoulder against fascism!" and "Sivas will become a grave for fascism!" and carried photos of the martyrs of Sivas. After some speeches on the massacre of Sivas, carnations were laid down in front of the Madimak Hotel.
In Istanbul commemorational actions were hold for a couple of days and continued with a commemorational action on June 2 at Zincirlikuyu and Karacaahmet cemetery where some of the Sivas martyrs have their graves. Besides, a rally was organised in Kadikoy, too.
Actions and events were also held in Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Malatya and Dersim to condemn the massacre of Sivas.
