Police attacked ESP activists protesting against torture

 The activists of the Socialist Platform of the Oppressed ( ESP ) were attacked by the police when they were going to realize an action on June 26 concerning the death of a young man named Mustafa Kukce tortured and killed by police officers. Mustafa Kukce had been arrested on June 13 suspected of theft and died because of heavy torture on June 15 when he was taken to prison after the period of arrest had finished.
At the action, the ESP activists opened a banner saying "Stop the killing under arrest - Celaleddin Cerrah must resign!" and shouted the slogan "Cancel the new police law!". In the press statement they said that Istanbul governor Muammer Gόler and chief of police Celaleddin Cerrah are responsible for the death of Mustafa Kukce and demanded their resignation.
The police arrested 10 people, among them Kamber Saygili, independent socialist deputy candidate of the 1st election zone of Istanbul for the early elections on July 22.
The independent socialist deputy candidates supported by the ESP and the trade union Limter-Is , whose General Secretary is Kamber Saygili, protested against the attack and demanded the release of Kamber Saygili and the other ESP activists. The arrested were released in the evening of the same day.
