The revolutionary and progressive organisations, which had been attacked by the police last week during an action for brotherhood and against provocational acts organized at Taksim, Istanbul, and whose 34 activists had been arrested following a police attack, gathered again at Taksim on June 23 to realize another action.
The organisations, among them The Socialist Platform of the Oppressed ( ESP ), DHP (Platform for Democratic Rights), SDP (Party of Socialist Democracy), HOC (Front for Basic Rights) and the magazine Partizan, hold a banner saying: "Stop the provocations, lynch attacks and massacres. Long live the common struggle of the Turkish and Kurdish people". They also shouted the slogans "Freedom to the Kurdish people", "The oppression can't stop us" and "Shoulder to shoulder against fascism".
In the press statement which was read in the names of the organisations, the general staff's statements on chauvinist massacres and provocations for lynching acts and his call for a civil war under the name of "mass reflex" were stressed and following that, a call was made not to join the rallies of "Damning the terror which are organized in this manner. In the statement, it said: "Politics such as provoking chauvinism, preparing the basis for lynching attacks and provocational acts and legitimizing massacres must be stopped immediately. Operations against the Kurdish people, any first attempts of operations and the bans on the identity and values of the Kurdish people must be stopped." At the action, the police tried to provoke a clash with the mass by deploying a big number of police men next to the mass.
The "silent rallies against terror", organized by following the general staff's order, were a total flop. Not even a thousand people joined the rallies in different cities.
