The newspaper Gundem has been banned for 1 month by the 13th Heavy Penal Court of Istanbul. The news about the claims that A. Ocalan (imprisoned leader of PKK ) has been poisoned by the state that were published on the issues of 2 and 5 March 2007 of this newspaper have been made the pretext of the banning. The Chief Editor of the newspaper Yuksel Genc defined the desicion of the court as a political measure and added the following words: "The claims that Ocalan has been poisoned have created a great anger among the society. The news concerning Ocalan is so important that a great mayority of the society is interested in this and it also affects the future of Turkey. We mentioned this point in our news."
