The terror of arrestment and imprisonment on the basis of the Anti-terror Law which has been continuing since September goes further with the arrestment of Hacı Orman, Head of the Executive Committee of BEKSAV (Foundation of Science Education Aesthetic Culture and Art Research) and the adviser of the newspaper Atilim, and Duriye Sezgin, founder member of EKD (Labouring Women's Association).
While being forced to get on a car by two civil policemen in Kadikoy/Istanbul on 31 January, Haci Orman resisted against the arrest attemp of the police and shouted his name, that he is the head of the Executive Committee of BEKSAV and they are trying to kidnap him. Haci Orman was tried to be kidnapped also in September by the agents from the Anti-terror Department.
And Duriye Sezgin was taken under police custody in Sirinevler/Istanbul. Sezgin was sent to prison on 1 january with the accusation of "being a member of an illegal organisation". EKD made a statement and called upon the labouring women to defend Sezgin.
Intellectuals and different democratic organisations reacted against the arrestment by calling for urgent action and they stated that this event, which took place right after the murder of Hrant Dink, is a threat against all the intellectuals. BEKSAV made a statement concerning this issue and expressed the following: "The kidnap and arrestment of Haci Orman is an attack against all the society, and at first, against the progressive and revolutionary forces; this is the continuation of the terror of arrestment and imprisonment which has increased at the last few months". BEKSAV also called upon all people to show interest in this event. Solidarity Platform with the Imprisoned Journalists ( TDGP ) published a statement and stated that "Journalist Haci Orman should be immediately released and those who has kidnapped and arrested him should be judged."
The arrestment of Orman was protested by actions on 1 January in Istanbul, Adana, Antep, Bursa and Ankara. In the actions, the slogan "Stop the attacks against intellectuals! Cancellation of the Anti-terror Law and 301st article! Immediate release of Haci Orman!" was raised.
The action in Istanbul was held in front of the newspaper Agos, where Hrant Dink was killed, in order to express the relation between two events.
