Prison sentence for Erol Zavar

Although Erol Zavar, former head of the editorial department of the magazine Odak, suffers since seven years from bladder cancer, he will not be released from prison. Claiming that "he had throttled an agent of the gendarmerie during the transfer to another place" he has been sentenced recently to a six month prison sentence. Erol Zavar, who has been sentenced to life imprisonment in 2000, had already 11 operations because of his illness and 39 tumors have been taken out of his bladder. In spite of his state of health being very seriously, he will not be released from prison and thus exposed to death. The political prisoners Mesut Deniz, Yasar Ince, Kemal Erturk, Savas Kor, Gokce Otlu und Filiz Gulkokuer are also still kept in prison in spite of their serious illnesses.
