Misery-increase to the minimal wage

The amount of increase of the minimal wage, which was on the agenda of protest acts by the workers' unions, has been announced. According to the decision of the Commission for Fixing the Minimal Wage taken on 26 December, the minimal wage increases from 380 YTL to 403 YTL for the period of January 2007-June 2007, with an increase of 6%.
The workers' unions reacted against the decision. They expressed that this increase condemns the workers and labourers once more to live under the conditions of misery and they raised the demand "We want a wage to live humanely"
The 44 % of the registered workers in Turkey and N. Kurdistan get minimal wage.
