Miriam Pellegrini Ferri, the Italian partisan, who took place in the resistance against Nazi fascism and now is the director of a culture and science review, sent a letter to Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan to protest the imprisonment of 23 revolutionaries including İbrahim Çiçek and Sedat Şenoğlu, journalists who work for the newspaper Atılım. Ferri wrote "Under the pretext that these honest citizens think differently from your government, you encroach a basic principle of European democracy that is the freedom of thinking and acting accordingly to everyone's own beliefs" and demanded the immediate release of the prisoners.
