The negotiations for collective agreement in the metal sector were broken off because of the demands of the Metal Enterprisers' Union (MESS) which tried to impose flexible production and low salaries to the workers. The union Birlesik Metal-Is announced that they will not let the bosses violate the workers' rights and that they will achieve their rights by their actions.
While the bosses insist on a 4 % increase in the salaries, % 25 decrease in the wages for extra-working hours and a trial period of 4 months, the union Birlesik Metal-Is demands equal share of the working hours, which is totally 45 hours per week, for each day of the week, 2-month-trial-period, priority to the low-waged workers when the salaries are increased and no change in he articles of the agreement on the issues such as premiums, indemnities, amount of the extra-pay for extra-working and etc.
The metal workers affiliated to the Birlesik Metal-Is union marched to their working place in the Industrial Zone of Gebze on 18 October to defend their rights and to protest the attitude of the bosses. They also announced that they will march to their working place everyday until they sign a collective agreement in accordance with their demands.
