 Ten thousand people against the occupation gathered in the Kadikoy Square of Istanbul on 20 August in order to say "no!" to sending troops to lebanon within the context of the UN resolution and to express solidarity with the resistance of the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples. opponents at the place of Kadikoey in Istanbul met and said "no" to the plans of the government to send troops into Lebanon and expressed their solidarity with the resistance of the Palestinian and Lebanese people.
At the demonstration which was organized by TMMOB (Union of the Mechanical Engineers' Chambers), KESK (Confederation of the Trade Unions of the Public Employees) and various trade unions and chambers, revolutionary and democratic platforms such as ESP , HOC , DHP, EKD , FHDD and different legal political parties such as EMEP and TKP also participated. The Coordination against the Occupation in Iraq opened a banner with the slogans "Abolition of all the aggreements with Israel! Do not send troops to lebanon! No to the crossing-border operations!".
Slogans such as "USA, murderers, get out of the Middle East!", "Everywhere is Palestine, everywhere is Lebanon!" and "All we are Palestinians, all we are Lebaneses!" were shouted and Palestinian and Lebanese flags were opened at the demonstration. ESP (Socialist Platform of the Oppressed) called attention to the importance of regional resistance by hanging a banner at the demonstration place with the slogan "Long Live The Democratic Middle East Federation!"
In the speeches it was emphasized that it is the major task of the anti-imperialists to act against the plans of the government of sendingoccupation forces to Lebanon within the context of the UN resolution. By expressing that "The peoples of the Middle East should trust in their qwn forces and not in the unions like the UN which are in collaboration with Zionism", the workers and labourers were called to fight against these plans.
On the other hand, the actions against the Israeli occupation and the plans of sending troops to Lebanon continue. The Union of Izmir against Imperialism and Zionism which consists of various organizations such as ESP, HOC, ILPS, Belediye Is, EHP , Alinteri, DHP and Devrimci Hareket, has organized a march with torches on 21 August opening a banner "Imperialism and Zionism will loose, the resisting people will win!".
In the labourers' district Gazi in Istanbul, the police attacked to the shopkeepers who had closed their shops on 22 August following the call of the Front for Rights and Liberties (HOC) and had hang the banners of Palestine and Lebanon to their shops as an expression of their solidarity with Palestinian and Lebanese people.
Another voice against the occupation is being raised by the revolutionary prisoners in different prisons who have carried out a 3-day-long hunger strike in order to protest the plans of sending troops to Lebanon, to condemn the Israeli attacks against Palestine and Lebanon, to express solidarity with the peoples of Palestine and Lebanon and to salute the honorable resistance of the oppressed peoples. Recently the political prisoners from the F-Type Prison of Tekirdag have declared that they will be on hunger strike between the dates of 22-25 August to protest the Israeli terror and the plans of sending troops to Lebanon.
