The clash between the bourgeois cliques that had created a tense atmosphere around the presidential election in April reached a new level after the results of the early general elections for July 22 had been released.
During April, the army front had put all effort in preventing the president to be elected out of the ranks of the AKP . Hundreds of thousands had participated in the rallies supporting a military coup called "rallies for the republic" which were organised by the army against the president's nomination of Tayyip Erdogan.
With these rallies, the army front aimed at widening its own social basis within this clique war and organising this basis for the aggressive policy it planned to develop in the next period.
After the AKP nominated Abdullah Gul, no. 2 of its party as a candidate, the army issued the memorandum of 27 April and threatened to realise a coup. This was a definite message showing that it was not going to leave Cankaya residence, which has a symbolic meaning, to the AKP. However, then early elections were proclaimed. In this sense, the early elections were an imposition by the general staff to make the situation change in his favour. With the elections, the aim was to make the AKP lose its posts, to rebuild the "right" and "left" wing system parties so that they would appear as the alternatives to the AKP and by that, the Cankaya post would have been saved and the union of wills of the fascist dictatorships' forces strengthened.
An important factor of this period was the undetermined initiative of the fascist dictatorship to intervene into South Kurdistan. The USA, that did not give its permission to such an attack, was the main factor for preventing the development of the dictatorship's will for the operation in South Kurdistan. Therefore, there was no union of will created among the bourgeoisie itself. The debate on an operation was postponed to the period after the early elections that were meant to reorganise the position of the bourgeois forces. However, the clamour for the operation in the south, the calls for a civil war and steps such as the increase of the social hysteria against the Kurdish people with and after the republic rallies continued. The 22 July elections brought the contrary what the front of the general staff had wished. The AKP went into parliament as a single party by achieving a record number of 47% of the votes. Abdullah Gul became again candidate for the presidency and was elected as president in the third round. The generals did not manage to defend Cankaya.
One reason for the generals to prevent steps that would have created an even more tense period before the early elections such as they had done it on April 27 were the workers and labourers who did not let themselves influence by provocations for a civil war under the name of "calls for a mass reaction" and the failure of creating the desired social basis. However, another reason was the USA`s stance. The USA did not support the army front in this process, because its interests were not consistent with the loyal collaborating fascist generals' greed for an operation in South Kurdistan and their plans for this region. These results have neither eased the conflict between the bourgeois cliques nor lead to the victory of one of the parties. The forces of the fascist regime could even not manage to construct a temporary union of wills. Concerning the Kurdish national struggle, the fascist regime did not undertake serious steps including the operation in the South, and this intervention is still on the agenda. The Kurdish question, the Cyprus question as well as other basic questions that lead to clashes between the bourgeois cliques still continue to exist. The fascist dictatorship is not able to get out of the gridlocked situation and can't produce any solutions.
Although the general staff has temporarily moved a step backwards from its April 27 memorandum line and is now in an even more disadvantaged situation in comparison to the former composition of parliament, the reasons that lead to the April 27 memorandum have not been disposed. All plans and policies on all main subjects and mainly on the Kurdish question are the same and continue. After losing the Cankaya post, the army front will of course try to strengthen again its initiative that has weakened and prestige. And this shows that the clash between the fascist regime cliques will continue. The army will bring forward different actions and concepts to prepare the society for its future steps.

On August 27, chief of general staff Buyukanit said in a written statement for the "Victory Day on August 30" that "Every day deceitful plans...appear in different forms...that have the aim to destroy the unity and mutuality of the Turkish nation and the secular and democratic structure of the Turkish Republic." He continued: "The Turkish Armed Forces, up to until now, will never sway from its determined stance and its duty of protecting and watching over the Turkish Republic, that is a democratic, secular and social constitutional state; and the army will never stop to use the thinking scheme of Ataturk as its guide, that the struggle against those who want to divide the country will continue and that "attacks and betrayal" will not make them give up."

This message is a concentrated expression of his statement on April 12 and the memorandum on April 27. It is clear that the army wants to give the following message: "We might have not achieved what we hoped for in the elections, but the struggle continues". The clash between the bourgeois cliques will take shape in the future period.
