Palestine at the cradle of splitting

Palestine has lead a decades-long resistance fighting with its stones and land, its youth, its old people, women and men against Israel Zionism, supported by the world's strongest war machine US-imperialism, and has given hope to the people of the world. However now, in its 40th year of resistance Palestine is now at the cradle of civil war and split.
The current process in Palestine is the direct result of the autonomy accord signed between Israel and the PLO on 13 September 1993 in Washington. The Palestinian National Authority, which was founded as a result of this accord, took over the duty of breaking the Palestinian resistance.
The voices, which Hamas gained at the elections in January 2006, were a sign for the reaction against the capitulating stance of Fatah that had adopted this stance since Oslo and performed it "laudably".
In contrary to Oslo and the line followed by Fatah, the determination of the Palestinian people to continue with the resistance until the idea of an independent Palestine will become true was reflected by the voices Hamas got. As a result of its defeat in the election, Fatah lead by Abbas deepened the collaboration with the USA, Israel and the Arab states being in line with Israel to weaken and break the initiative of Hamas.
The policy of the USA after the election and its results was first of all to hinder the foundation of a coalition government of Hamas and Fatah. The plans of the USA especially concentrated on the security forces that were under the hegemony of Fatah. The US-imperialists cut all financial aid for Palestine and supported the USA when realizing these manoeuvres.
On the basis of stopping to pay the wages of the security forces, a revolt was provoked against the government. However, the aim of the total split of Hamas and Fatah could not be achieved through that.
The USA, EU and Israel did not accept the election results; they did not even recognize them. With the aim of a new government under the total control of Abbas and appropriate for their own interests, they put the government in a difficult situation and imposed an embargo on Palestine. In March 2007, a new coalition government, the national unity government, followed the former coalition government founded after the elections. The USA and Israel continued with their pressure on the national unity government, too. Olmert declared that he was not ready to meet the new unity government. Rice announced that "the peace between Palestine and Israel will not proceed this easy".
The USA and Israel were trying to get out of this vicious circle and undertook steps to solve the problem that Fatah is politically and military inferior to Hamas. While the USA openly supported and approved a budget to expand the military forces of Abbas and make them technically perfect, Israel made hidden logistic support.
At the moment, Palestine is spit into two. On the one hand there is the Gaza Strip under the hegemony of Hamas, and on the other hand the West Bank under the hegemony of Abbas. This split also subsists on geographical, military and historical/cultural reasons.
The split in favour of Abbas is supported by the factor that Israel has the control of the connection between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Besides, the former occupation of the Gaza strip by Egypt and the occupation of the West Bank by Lebanon and the following occupation by Israel, that limited the relations between the two regions, lead to the fact that the Palestinians living in these regions have become different in a way and make them adopt the cultures of these two countries.
This time, Israel openly declared its support to the Abbas government. Finally, it declared to recognize the Abbas government and sat down at the negotiating table at Sharm el-Sheikh.
By that, Fatah has stepped backwards from capitulation to open collaboration as a logical conclusion of the Oslo accord. Hamas and Fatah have become means of the imperialist-Zionist alliance to try to split Palestine. This situation is another example for the necessity that the leadership of the anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist resistance in the Middle East must change from non-staunch anti-imperialist forces to staunch anti- imperialist forces and that the conditions for that are becoming more and more mature.
The get-together of the revolutionary, progressive and communist forces of the Middle East for the coordination of the resistance on the basis of actions, true relations and concrete political steps is an inevitable duty.
