Together with the decision of early elections, the regime crisis of the Turkish ruling classes, which is about reaching its peak in the presidential elections, has entered a new period. Therefore, the early elections have also become the main point on the agenda of progressive, revolutionary and patriotic forces.
During the first days after the memorandum on April 27, all discussions concentrated on
keeping the AKP away from the president's seat while the progressive forces draw attention on the fact that with the statement "Anyone not saying "How happy I am to be a Turk" is an enemy of the Turkish Republic" in the memorandum, the Kurdish people, revolutionary and communist forces were announced as enemies. However, immediately after the AKP was liquidated from the elections, the whole bourgeois front, including the AKP, accepted the law on a single ballot that represented the effort to exclude the DTP from the elections. While the disputes between the AKP and the generals continue, with the provocation* that happened in front of Anafartlar shopping centre and afterwards the arrests of some DTP activists claiming that they were suicide bombers or supporters of an offense and with similar means, chauvinist lynching hysteria was tried to be deepened.
The generals, who are on the one hand preparing a cross-border operation, on the other hand resort to a ruse one after another in order to hinder the DTP joining the parliament.
Whilst the generals force the workers and labourers and the oppressed Kurdish people to decide between the AKP and the CHP , the Marxists Leninists Communists have pointed out from the beginning of this period that the working class and labourer masses are not without any choice concerning this attempt to lead them in a special direction and that the progressive, revolutionary, communist and Kurdish patriotic forces must interfere together in the elections by strengthening the line of the united struggle.
When the DTP decided to join the elections with independent candidates because of the 10% -threshold and with that paved the way for founding the "Block of Independent Candidates", the Marxists Leninists Communists put effort in uniting the progressive intellectuals, revolutionary forces, progressive reformist parties and the Kurdish patriotic movement.
Progressive intellectuals, trade unionists and representatives of democratic mass organizations also called on the progressive forces to unite in favour of the independent candidates. Regardless what the outcome will be, it is already important that this call supported by a mass has been made. This reflects the potential and level of the united revolutionary struggle that was created with the campaigns after the attacks in September last year, the united post created against the assassination of Hrant Dink, the front that was established concerning the isolation and the death fast of Behic Asci and the front that was formed to conquer the Taskim Square on Mayday 2007.
However, the attempts of a united interference in the early elections by progressive, revolutionary and the Kurdish-patriotic forces have not gone beyond certain borders. The DTP nominated and presented its candidates regardless of these discussions. This party did not show any tendency to form a common electoral list with the other forces. Among the reformist parties, EMEP and SDP waited until the last for the stance of the DTP. As usually and with every subject, the TKP decided to join the elections as a party, totally independent from the progressive, revolutionary forces. One part of the revolutionary forces continues with its chronic tactics of boycotting the elections, another part has not even announced what it is going to do. While some revolutionary, progressive forces, among them also the ESP , continue with the discussions on common independent candidates; it has become clear that most of the main forces do not support this idea shows how this process might continue.
We the Marxists Leninist Communists aim at revealing the efforts of the generals to draw the workers and labourers to their ranks under the polarization of "secularism-sharia", the aggression against the Kurdish people and the attempts of poisoning the Turkish workers and labourers with chauvinism.
We see the elections as a means to reveal the bourgeois parties of the system and to present the working class and labourer masses socialism as an alternative. With this consciousness, we prepare ourselves for the elections. Therefore; we will always struggle to unite the most progressive forces of the masses of workers and labourers against social and political reaction, chauvinism and militarism and for freedom, a just peace and democracy; against imperialist occupation and plundering, unemployment and poverty, for a human and dignified life.
