The campaign „We want freedom", which had been started in Turkey/Northern Kurdistan and in Europe against the attacks and detentions carried out by the Turkish fascist state against our party and socialist organisations in September, has been finished in Turkey.
During the campaign "We want freedom", which was planned as a three-months-campaign, one special aim was to avoid that the detention and imprisonment attack of the states turns into fighting a duel between the state and the revolutionaries, socialists and communists, in which the struggle would have be isolated from the masses. The campaign became a stage from where the demand for "freedom" of the working class, the labouring masses, the oppressed Kurdish nation, the labourers of the alevi belief, the students, youngsters and women were defended. The campaign was an expression of making the question of all the political freedoms subject of discussion against the fascist dictatorship. The campaign focussed on standing up for and growing the socialist organisations, which the state tried to destroy, to organising the defence against the attack and on arousing the attention of the progressive parts of society, of the other revolutionary organisations, the progressive reformist forces, the intellectuals, trade-unionists and different associations for the campaign and on carrying socialism and the attacked socialist organisations even more to the broad labouring masses.
After the three months, the campaign "we want freedom" has reached its aims set. The line of the united resistance, which showed its first examples after the attacks, continued to ripen in the course of the campaign. They approached the struggle for the freedom of the 10 September prisoners as a component of the struggle against the anti-terror law, against the continuing isolation in the prisons, against the fascist attacks at the universities, against the military operations in Kurdistan, against the restrictions of the freedom of press and organisation.
The meetings, which took place every Saturday during the 14 weeks in which the campaign was carried out very intensively, have ended also at the end of the campaign.
At the same time, the campaign "we want freedom" continues even more intensive in the European countries. One of the aims of the campaigns, which goes on with different means like panels, meetings, information tables, leaflets, posters, signature campaigns and newsletters, is to organise international delegations to the trials of the prisoners. It is known already from the work made so far, that people from different countries will come to observe the trials and support the prisoners.
The fact that the campaign ended in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan means not at all that the struggle for the freedom of the 10 September Prisoners will slow down. On the contrary, the activities are going on as announced already in the beginning; after the three month of campaign it will now be replaced by a massive participation in the trials of the imprisoned revolutionaries and communists in order to transform the trials into stages from where socialism will be defended in the name of the affected organisations and by including this demands into the period of intensive actions between March 8 and Mayday. Moreover, the dates of hearing of some revolutionaries and communists are fixed already; in this sense the new phase started.
The dates of hearing of those, who were detained in the September attacks between September 8 -12, are still not fixed. But in less than two month the period of six months of secrecy will end. The trials of the leaders and activists of the organisations, who were detained on September 21, have started already. After the release of several people also the activists of the ESP , who were detained in Antep, Adana and Iskenderun have been released after the first hearing. There will be two important hearings in February and April. The first one, which includes 17 people, will take place from 22 to 23 February in Diyarbakir. The date of hearing in Istanbul, where the imprisoned leaders and activists of the ESP, the newspaper Atilim, the EKD , the SGD , the Radio Ozgur Radyo and the trade-unions Limter-Is and Tekstil-Sen will be heard is fixed for April 13. It is highly probably, that besides the participation of representatives of revolutionary and democratic organisations and intellectuals from Turkey and Northern Kurdistan also international delegation will come from abroad to show their international solidarity.
The September attacks, which are a part of the comprehensive social attack of the fascist Turkish state, targets in the first place the communist and revolutionary movement, but also the whole social opposition. These attacks are going on with the assassination of the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Agos and Armenian intellectual Hrant Dink. These attacks will be fought back by the united revolutionary struggle. The solidarity movement, which came into being since September around the ESP and Atilim, which grew in December against the attacks against HOC , the magazine Yuruyus and TAYAD and turned into a street fight and which culminated at the standing up for Hrant Dink into a antifascist mass meeting, will fight back the fascist anti-terror laws. The international participation in the hearings if the imprisoned activists of the ESP in Diyarbakir and Istanbul is a duty of international friendship and solidarity.
