After a bloody massacre on December 19 , 2000 , in which 20 prisons were attacked at once and 28 revolutionary prisoners became martyrs, the revolutionary prisoners of Turkey and Northern Kurdistan have been brought to the F-Type isolations prisons.
The prisoners of eleven revolutionary organisations resisted with their glorious death fast against this attack of the state, who tried to force the prisoners to surrender. In 2002, the death fast was ended by 8 organisations, among them also our party MLCP, stating that this form of resistance has played its role and now has to be replaced by other means of resistance. The DHKP-C continued with the death fast for six years. The historical victory of the death fast consists in the fact that it has been proofed that the revolutionary prisoners do not surrender to the attack of fascism even in the F-type-cells; that they did not bow their head. Meanwhile thus the revolutionaries achieved an ideological victory, on the other hand the state insisted on its policy of isolation and no concrete/physical victory had been achieved in any way.
In the last months, the struggle against the F-Type isolation entered in a new phase. When the death fast, conducted by the lawyer Behic Asci, Gulcan Goruroglu and Sevgi Saymaz against the isolation, came close to its 300. day, the struggle against isolation included more and more intellectuals, artists and different stratums of the society. The struggle against the anti-terror law, which concretized in our party during the September-attacks, united with the struggle against isolation. The line of the united revolutionary struggle ensured that the Taksim-meetings could take place with a participation of hundreds of people, that the progressive reformist circles could be integrated in this phase, more and more trade-unions, confederations and professional organisations participated, that the sensibility of the lawyers for this topic could be developed. The demand to open three doors and three locks turned into one of the main demands of the social struggle. The problem of isolation broke the censorship of the bourgeois media. The anniversary of December 19 became a process, in which the line of the united struggle against the anti-terror law and isolation became alive and a new level was reached concerning the sensibility for the question solitary confinement. In January, mass events with a growing participation took place, first of all in Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara.
In spite of the state, which was in a difficult situation at this point, trying to continue its silence, the statement of the general director of prisons, Kenan Ipek, who said that there will be no step back concerning the isolation, and later on the statement of the chair of parliament, Bulent Arinc about the inhumane conditions in the F-Type prisons have shown that they was some movement among the forces of the state.
In the end, the state made a step back in its six-years-long isolation policy. The minister of justice announced in a circular dated January 22 about the F-Type prisons, that "up to 10 prisoners can come together for ten hours per week in order to communicate which each other". The precondition of "discipline" for this was cancelled.
As a result of this step, the lawyer Behic Asci, Gulcan Goruroglu and Sevgi Saymaz ended their death fast. On January 27, intellectuals, artists, lawyers, trade-unionists, democratic mass organisations, political parties and platforms meet in Istanbul-Taksim for the final of their action. They had a banner saying "The resistance has won; our struggle against isolation goes on".
This step back of the state doubtlessly has opened a "hole" in the wall of isolation, but it nevertheless does not solve the problem of isolation. Furthermore, this achieved legal right has to be defended against the efforts to restrict it in the practical application. So, let away the end of the struggle against isolation; this struggle entered into a new stage.
The new anti-terror law, issued by the fascist dictatorship lat June, the extra-judicial killings committed by the state after that, the detention and imprisonment terror, the detention terror in September and the raids and detentions following that did not force back the social struggle but, on the contrary, gave way to a struggle, which forced the state to make a step back concerning the isolation and which produced antifascist actions of fraternity of hundreds of thousands after the assassination of Hrant Dink. This struggle is going on growing continuously.
