The Turkish bourgeoisie has lost one of her "most important men". Bulent Ecevit, who died on November 5, was a politician who left its mark on the bourgeois policy of the last 50 years. The "Karaoglan" (hero, close to the people, honest man) of the 70ies has been at any time the mouthpiece of the capital.
It was B. Ecevit who legalized the right to strike in the beginning of the 60ies under the impact of the developing struggle of the working class and by that became the "son of the people", the "Karaoglan", but at the same time it was him who legalized also the right of the bosses to lockout.
It was him who tried in the middle of the 70ies with the concept "left from the center" to impede the tendency towards the "left" of the workers´ movement and the laborers and take the laboring masses in the tow of the interests of the bourgeoisie. As the political life pf Bulent Ecevit also shows, the concept "left from the center" has nothing to do with left.
B. Ecevit is the main organizer of the occupation of Cypress. In 1973, during the discharge of his office as Prime Minister, the North of Cypress has been occupied by the Turkish army. It was B. Ecevit, who called the state of emergency in 13 states and sent the tanks against the people after the massacre of Maras ( December 19 78), in which 105 persons have been murdered.
Again it was Ecevit who paved the way in the hierarchy of the army for General K. Evren, the main actor in the fascist coup d'état of September 12, 1980.
Many years after, he was called again to duty in order to let the bourgeoisie grab same fresh air. It was Ecevit again who was given the task from the men behind the February 28 to build a government instead of the duet Erbakan and Ciller, who have been removed from office on February 28, 1996 through a "fine set coup d'état".
When the massacre in the prisons from 19.22 December 2000 took place, Ecevit was in the office of the Prime Minister. Ecevit announced his responsibility for this massacre with the following words: "If we wouldn't have taken under control the prisons, we would not have been able to control the outside of the prisons and to carry out the IMF-program."
In 1999, A. Ocalan was handed out to the fascist dictatorship by an international conspiracy; it was again Ecevit who was Prime Minister at that time.
When the economic crisis broke out in February 2001, he was the Prime Minister. He firmed the packets and laws of neoliberal attacks and plunder which were imposed on Turkey from the IMF after this crisis.
In the course of its political life, Ecevit presented himself always in the "left" field. By showing himself "lefty" he provoked the Turkish chauvinism and with his enmity against the Kurdish nation he became one of the favorites of the army and the Generals. The reason for the army being so interested in his funeral also was exactly this.
