Hunger Strike Resistance Grows

The hunger strike resistance launched by the HDP deputy and the co-chairperson of the Democratic Society Congress ( DTK ), Leyla Güven, has been growing day by day with the participation of political prisoners and communist prisoners.

 

Former President of the People's Democratic Party (HDP), Figen Yüksekdağ who were detained in the Kandıra Prison and the President of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed, Çiçek Otlu also started a hunger strike.

 

On December 28th, Human Rights Association ( IHD ), the Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TIHV), Contemporary Jurists Association (ÇHD), Association of Free Jurists (ÖHP), Ankara Bar Association Commission of Prisons, held a press conference about the spreading hunger strike to all prisons.

 

Speaking at the meeting, the head of the HRA commemorated those who died on the anniversary of the Roboski Massacre. He once again called for the prosecution to be brought to justice. He said that the hunger strike initiated by Leyla Güven entered the 51st day and that 80 prisoners in 18 prisons had shared the purpose of this action and on different dates, they had started a indefinite and continuous hunger strike to end the isolation policy of the state.

 

In order to monitor the hunger strikes and avoid any serious violations of rights, the İHD , TİHV, ÇHD, ÖHP, bars, prison and human rights commissions and health organizations have established a joint coordination.
