The October revolution, national freedom, peoples' equality and fraternity

The October revolution still carries the character of showing the way of liberation to the world proletariat and the oppressed peoples, and the character of being a source of inspiration for them. Before all, the October revolution is a big historical surge which opened the way of materialization of socialism which was only a theory until that day and made it possible for the theory to become a material force. In this sense, the October revolution showed to the whole world that the bourgeois comprehensions "capitalism will last forever", "socialism is an utopia and cannot be realized" are demagogies. In this sense, the October Revolution is an expression of an irreversible leap in the struggling methods, organization forms, life and thinking styles of the oppressed classes, and mainly the proletariat; it is an expression of the orientation of the humanity from a capitalist world to a socialist world. In this sense the October Revolution is a bounce of quality in the historical development; it is the first step of the transition from a world based on exploitation to a world which does not know exploitation.

The October revolution struck to imperialism not only in the imperialist countries, in the countries where capitalism was developed and a socialist revolution was on the agenda; but also in the colonies. It wakened the colonized peoples who were sleeping, the nations who were crying under imperialist dependence and national oppression and it showed them the way of national liberation and peoples" fraternity. In this sense, it started the era of the national and social liberation revolutions in the colonies.

Today, again the imperialist forces which race against each other for the world hegemony occupy other countries, threaten the countries which resist against their interests, and wage wars against them. In order to carry on their imperialist rivalry and to occupy the fields which they find important for their strategic interests and to take them under control, they provoke the peoples and the national and ethnical societies against each other, they convert the whole world and, at first, the Middle East, the Balkans and the Caucasus into a lake of blood. Imperialism divides, dissolves the forces that can act together against it and in this manner makes them ineffective.

The imperialists and their ideologists divide the world society into two categories: The western societies which are the cradle of civilization, which internalize democracy and have the capacity to develop. Despite these, the societies which refuse civilization, do not recognize democracy and do not have the capacity to develop. This division is the reflection of the political reactionary, racist essence of imperialism. They made this division also before the October revolution. And the October Revolution formed the best answer to this national oppression and racism.

The restoration of capitalism in the Soviet Union; the dismembering of once socialist country of the past as a revisionist, bureaucratic capitalist and social imperialist country; the collapse of the Revisionist Bloc besides this and the intensified anticommunist attacks of the imperialist bourgeoisie have never reached that the October Revolution looses its importance. On the contrary, the humanitarian drama, imperialist massacred and brutality, the genocides, which are caused by the national, ethnical and religious conflicts under the conditions of imperialist aggression, occupation and war which becomes more and more fierce because of the imperialist hegemony in our world, increase the desire and the demand of the humanity for the national liberties and the equality and fraternity which the oppressed nations and peoples had lived in the Soviet Union and the October Revolution.

As Stalin claimed, the October Revolution and, after that, the Soviet state gave to the nations, peoples and the ethnical groups which were colonized and condemned to vanish during the period of Tsar's Russia the national liberties 'which no government in the world had given' before. It is a direct product of the October Revolution that the peoples which were made enemies of each other, for which it was made impossible to live together, were able to live together and become a part of the socialist society, improving their national characteristics.

Yet in 25 October 1917, the Soviet state declared in a decree about the national question that it a) Considers that 'all peoples of Russia are equal and sovereign'; b) Recognizes 'the self-determination right of all peoples of Russia including the right of separation and establishing their own independent states'; c) 'Has abolished all and all kinds of national and national-religious privileges and limitations'; and d) Would stimulate 'the free developing of the national minorities and the ethnical groups which lives on the Russian territories. The practice and the realization of the self-determination right of the nations brought together that the nations which were liberated from the Tsarist prison could live together in peace and fraternally.

The October Revolution showed that it is possible for the nations and the minorities to live together; that those who are "worthless" according to the imperialists' racist theories can create "miracles"; that the world can be changed into a paradise consisting of different nations under conditions of socialism; under conditions where there is no exploitation and national oppression.

The imperialist bourgeoisie and their ideologists will not succeed in their attacks against Marxism-Leninism and in their efforts to distort the achievements of the October Revolution and to make peoples forget them. The communist parties today have the duty to fight for the revolutions in each country as well as the regional revolutions taking lessons from the October Revolution, the construction of socialism in the USSR and the collapse of it in 1956. Today, the communist parties also have the duty to evaluate the anti-imperialist struggle, the struggle of the oppressed peoples and the dependent nations for national liberation with the perspective of social liberation and they have the duty to lead this struggle.
