Tens of thousands of workers are now in the process of collective labor agreement in the metal sector. The negotiations which is going on with the MESS (name of the business owners' union) cover almost 200 workplaces and 130 thousand workers. When considered with the families, almost 500 thousand people are directly affected by this agreement.

3 workers' union are joining the negotiations and no agreement is reached up to now. And the workers have decided to go on strike after the last meeting with the boss' union MESS. They put the notice on board in their workplaces to declare that the strike will begin on 2nd of February.

There is a huge difference what the worker union Birleşik Metal-İş wants as raise to the wages (30% for the first 6 month) and what MESS offers (6.4% for th same period). Worker unions also have additional demands such as social rights and length of the agreement.

Workers are organizing widespread protests in front of factories and have an action plan going along with the strike decision. They are using banners saying "No to the suppression of MESS", "No to the flexible working", "No to the OHAL" (state of emergency) and shouting slogans "Humane life, humane wage", " We are the producers, we want what we deserve", "Metal workers ready for strike" and "We will not be the slaves of the bosses".

Many workers are also angry with the yellow trade union Türk-Metal who stays silent against the pushes from MESS. Türk-Metal union also decided to cancel their actions due to the operation to Afrin. Thu, they become part of chauvinist propaganda of Erdoğan and continue to blur the consciousness of the workers.
